The film PROGRESS is a lesson taught by a father to his daughter. The girl is only three years old and unable to repeat her father’s words correctly, which is her task. She has a slightly runny nose, a pale yellow dress, and many hairpins. The backdrop is a forest, trees silently moving in the wind. The atmosphere is full of intimacy, security, and warmth. In these domestic settings, we slowly, step by step, word by word, learn about humanity’s progress in killing methods—from the spear, through the machine gun, nuclear weapon, and finally the drone.

Film Progress has been produced while working on the project Painkillers for Hygiene and Progress exhibition at Warsaw Zachęta National Gallery in 2014.
