Emergency Light

Atonal Fetival, Berlin

Commissioned and produced by Atonal Festival, Berlin
Curator: Adriano Rosselli

Emergency Light creates a hallucinatory setting in which the perception of time and sense of safety are challenged. It consists of a lone object which is an oversized, steadily burning red warning light like those used usually for emergency vehicles. In the project the frequency of turning is slowed down 30 times.

The top of the light, made out of conical, red acrylic glass, sheds a warm red glow. With every turn it is shaded by the round reflective element inside of the glass cone, which produces a rhythmic, trance pulsation. The bottom of the object is made out of black matt metal of industrial character. The Emergency Light is 180cm high, which is the average height of a human male and which charges the project with a sense of threat.
